Question

Contaminated land and river pollution

You have pledged to make rivers in London swimmable within ten years. One of the potential causes of pollution in London rivers is the runoff from nearby contaminated land. Have you considered how this will impact your promise to clean up London’s rivers, and what actions are you planning to take?

Answer

Date: Friday 5 July 2024

There is a variety of water pollution sources including contaminated land. See MQ 1871 for issues which will need to be addressed and the initial steps we are considering as part of the development of a plan to clean up London's Rivers. As committed to in my manifesto, I have asked my officers to start working on a collaborative plan to drive action in this area.
