Question

AEB and green skills

Could you tell me: a) what percentage of the Adult Education Budget (AEB) you are committing to building green skills, b) what specific programmes will be funded, and c) the planned length of these programmes?

Answer

Date: Friday 5 July 2024

My Adult Education Budget (AEB) prioritises the strategic importance of green skills. Over the last three full academic years (2020/21-22/23) about 10% of the £320 million AEB has been invested in skills that will support the green economy.  Since I took responsibility for London’s AEB, in 2019/20, this represents an increase of around 25%.

Through my Jobs and Skills for Londoners programme I am also investing AEB and Free Courses for Jobs funding to deliver additional green skills training in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years. This amounts to around 7,000 green skills learning aims, just over 10% of the total delivered through the programme.

Additionally, through my Mayor’s Skills Academies and Skills Bootcamps for Londoners programmes, I am supporting the greater coordination of green skills training with employers and providers to help more Londoners into good jobs. Both programmes currently run until March 2025.
