Is London on track for its 2030 net zero target?

In December 2018, the Mayor declared a climate emergency and made a commitment to make London a net zero carbon city by 2030.1

In the first of a two-part investigation, the London Assembly Environment Committee will meet tomorrow to examine the steps the Mayor is taking to achieve his goal of reducing emissions in London to net zero by 2030, which requires an estimated £75 billion of investment in infrastructure.2

The investigation will also explore the effectiveness of the Mayor’s communication and public engagement strategies for climate policies, and what further work could be done in this area.

The meeting will begin with a question and answer session with the newly appointed Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, Mete Coban MBE, on his role and priorities.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 19 September 2024 from 2pm in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
