What is the Survey of Londoners?

The Survey of Londoners was a research study commissioned by the Mayor of London in 2018-19 and 2021-22. The study helps us understand the lives of people living in London and, in particular, the 2021-22 survey showed how London had changed after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The information from the surveys supported the Mayor of London to deliver a range of programmes to support Londoners including building strong communities, helping Londoners with their mental health and wellbeing, providing a robust safety net and good work for Londoners.

Evidence from the previous surveys has contributed to a wide range of policies and programmes, including the London Voter Registration Week and relief efforts to provide food to the most vulnerable during the pandemic.

Who carried out the research?

The Mayor of London commissioned The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) to carry out both waves of the survey on their behalf. NatCen is Britain’s largest, independent, social research agency. For over 50 years, it has worked with charities and government to find out what people really think about the big issues. NatCen is independent of all government departments and political parties.

Where can I see the results?

The headline findings of the study, as well as a data explorer tool, are available on the London Datastore.
