London City Resilience Strategy
About the Strategy
The London City Resilience Strategy is aimed at ensuring the capital is able to remain resilient and prepared for future challenges.
The strategy highlights potential long-term threats to London’s safety and stability, and outlines stresses that are likely to affect the future success of the capital. It addresses challenges and sets out mitigation activity to ensure that London is able to thrive in the face of disruption.
The City Resilience Strategy sets out projects that seek to promote a collaborative approach to mitigating future challenges. These include impacts of climate change and extreme weather events on our urban environment; projects to support London’s communities to become more resilient; and projects to support our governance and data-led approach to building resilience.
The London City Resilience Strategy is a formal milestone in joining the 100 Resilient Cities – now known as the Global Resilient Cities Network - a global network of cities that collaboratively share knowledge, expertise and learning with one another to improve resilience.
Meanwhile Use London
A research report was produced exploring the practice, stakeholders and business models of 'meanwhile use' activities, and how they can contribute to addressing some of London’s resilience challenges and support recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
This report is part of Action B2 – Exploring Meanwhile Space of the London City Resilience Strategy.
Public Consultation
The Mayor consulted on the approach to the London City Resilience Strategy in Autumn 2019 – known as the Preliminary Resilience Assessment. Thank you to everyone who gave their views. An overview of responses to the consultation is included in the London City Resilience Strategy.
How existing policy contributes to resilience
The GLA has produced a number of strategies across London’s core policy areas that have an impact on improving resilience. An analysis was carried out to map how existing policy is already contributing to building resilience in London, using the 100 Resilient Cities’ City Resilience Framework. This analysis is part of the evidence which informed the development of the City Resilience Strategy.
Equality Impact Assessment
An equality impact assessment was carried out as part of the strategy, to ensure that actions in the strategy are fair and inclusive.
