An urban forest is all the trees and woodlands in a town or a city. London is one of the world’s largest urban forests, containing an estimated 8.4 million trees in public and private spaces.

The London Urban Forest Resource Hub provides the latest information, good practice and guidance on the capital's trees and woodlands. The resources will be of interest to local authorities, landowners, environmental organisations, community groups and anyone living and working in London wanting to find out more about the urban forest.

The Hub is structured around the three aims and related goals in the London Urban Forest Plan. Below you can access the resources which include example projects, maps and data, funding opportunities and ways to get involved.

More information, including publications, research and guidance, is also available on the London Urban Forest Research Hub publications library.

Publications library

The London Urban Forest Resource Hub publication library brings together a range of reports, strategies, guidance and research on London's urban forest. The resources highlight the environmental, social and economic value of London's urban forest and how to protect, grow and promote it for the future.

Jobs and volunteering opportunities

There’s a recognised shortage of skills in the sector. The Arboricultural Association website outlines some of the different routes into tree and woodland related jobs and training courses on offer.

If you’re looking for jobs or training opportunities, you can also take a look at these webpages:

Volunteering opportunities are listed under each of the three challenge pages, protecting and managing, growing and expanding and promoting and supporting.

Funders

This Resource Hub is funded by the Trees Call to Action Fund. The fund was developed by Defra in partnership with the Forestry Commission and is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
