Independent consultants supported teachers to develop knowledge and teaching activities for the new computing curriculum.

Computer Programming 4 Teachers

The project aimed to increase computer programming knowledge among primary teachers, in response to the new Computing Curriculum by training teachers in subject knowledge, confidence and effective classroom delivery. The project was delivered to 16 teachers in 4 schools. Findings were that while teachers' understanding can be achieved relatively quickly in training, independent delivery in the classroom tends to be slower. The majority of pupils demonstrated a readiness to acquire age appropriate programming knowledge and techniques. As computer programming is a new subject there is no historical data specifically relating to performance with which to compare progress; more data is needed.
