Royal Society of Chemistry - Inspiring Chemistry Teachers

Enhancing the chemistry subject knowledge, skills and confidence of teachers at all levels.

Royal Society of Chemistry Inspiring Chemistry Teachers

The project used existing resources and an established infrastructure to cultivate teaching excellence through investment in CPD for teachers. Alongside this investment in teachers, it set out to build the interests and expectations of predominantly secondary school students in studying chemistry, by running a number of enrichment and enhancement activities.

Royal Society of Chemistry Education Coordinators engaged with local teacher networks, supported event delivery, and provided access to the RSC’s award winning resources. The project worked with the STEM Education Centre London at the UCL Institute of Education to provide face-to-face CPD courses for London teachers from NQT to advanced levels. Chemistry at Work events were run for KS1 to KS5 where students could appreciate the place of chemistry in everyday life and the world of work, with a particular emphasis on London.

Teachers demonstrated increased confidence and pedagogical chemistry subject knowledge of hard to teach areas and greater awareness of subject specific teaching methods to address student misconceptions and practical work.
