Join us for an evening of discussion with historians, academics, creatives and community members to examine the repercussions of the events and intergenerational impact of the partition of India 75 years ago, on the British Asian community in London and throughout the UK.
This event commemorates the Partition of India and identifies its connection to London, its communities, and broader British history.
We will question why this history is absent in the public realm when it is still a ‘living’ history and legacy of one of Britain's greatest empires. We will also showcase community-led heritage and archive projects exploring innovative ways to engage with this history. And you will be asked to reflect how this part of British history can represented in the public realm.
This event is part of London Unseen, a season of trails, tours and events that celebrate the many incredible histories of the city, as told by communities, practitioners, artists and activists. Curated on behalf of the Mayor of London's Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, the season is supporting over 20 community heritage practitioners to provide over 40 events free of charge to the public.
This event programme has been curated by Sadiya Ahmed and Everyday Muslim on behalf of the Mayor of London's Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm.
