What's in this report?

This report presents examples of how Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and cultural organisations can work together to drive economic growth and help their communities thrive.

It includes examples of best practice to inspire BIDs and cultural organisations. It makes the case for even greater collaboration, and includes priorities for next steps as well as recommendations for BIDs, cultural organisations, and local and national authorities to help them work together more effectively.

What are BIDs?

BIDs started in North America and came to the UK in the early 2000s. Since then, a growing number have evolved to become key allies for culture. In this role, BIDs have helped to generate funding, broker useful partnerships and improve local areas.

The Mayor has joined forces with the Arts Council and King’s College London to examine these partnerships, looking at both past achievements and future potential.
