This meeting took place on 18 November 2014. Read the transcript here.
Since 2008, a total of 11 strategic planning applications have been called-in for review by Mayor Boris Johnson, including applications for the Mount Pleasant Sorting Office and Eileen House, near the Ministry of Sound. Are local, democratic processes being by-passed in order to get the green light for controversial applications? Is a precedent being set by the increasing number of planning applications the Mayor of London calls-in? Are developers challenging localism by going straight to the top, when boroughs reject schemes? The London Assembly Planning Committee will tomorrow examine the Mayor’s role in calling-in London’s strategic planning applications. The following guests will be questioned:
Sir Edward Lister, Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor, Policy and Planning, Greater London Authority (GLA)
Duncan Bowie, Senior Lecturer in Planning, University of Westminster
Peter Eversden, Chair, London Forum of Amenity and Civic Societies
Mike Franks, Chair, The Mount Pleasant Association
Marcus Bate, Senior Associate, Pinsent Masons LLP
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 18 November from 10:00am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast. Notes for Editors:
Nicky Gavron AM, Chair of the Planning Committee is available for interview. See contact details below.
