The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

“Eleven people have been injured and nine taken to hospital in an incident involving a car in Exhibition Road, South Kensington earlier this afternoon. A man was detained by police almost immediately. Police have now confirmed that this incident is not terrorist-related. It is being treated as a road-traffic collision.

“I would like to thank our police and other emergency service first responders for their swift reactions and also passers-by for remaining calm. All those injured are in our thoughts and we hope they all make a swift recovery.

“I have spoken with Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley and been in close contact with the police and our other emergency services.

“For Londoners and visitors planning to visit our excellent museums and attractions in the area, please be assured they will be open as usual tomorrow.

“Please follow @metpoliceuk and @TfL for further information.”
