The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Whichever way you slice it, there is no doubt that this deal falls short of what’s best for London, the UK and our economy. It does not come close to the benefits we enjoyed as members of the EU.
“However, this is the deal now on the table. While we still need to see the detail, we now have a direct choice between this agreement or a catastrophic no deal Brexit.
“The Prime Minister says his deal removes non-tariff barriers. That is untrue – it imposes them. From 1 January, hundreds of thousands of UK businesses are facing a costly, red tape mountain caused by the UK having to trade with the EU as a ‘third country’.
“However, now is the time for us to focus on the future, not the past. That’s why I will do everything I can to help Londoners and businesses to deal with this challenging new reality and to reassure European Londoners that they will always be welcome in our city. I will continue working for the UK to have a closer economic and political relationship with our EU friends in the future.
“Despite Brexit, London will always remain open to business, investment and people from around the world - and, as the Mayor of London, I will go on banging the drum for our city across the globe."
