Greater London Authority weekly statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Created on
10 July 2020

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is publishing this update on behalf of the NHS and London Strategic Coordinating Group.

In the last seven days, a further 20 people who tested positive for COVID-19 were confirmed to have died in hospitals in the Greater London area. There were 4 further deaths where COVID-19 was documented as a direct or underlying cause of death.

The total number of reported deaths in London hospitals of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 is now 6,118. On Wednesday, NHS England nationally removed 12 records which had been reported twice in error and an additional record that was input incorrectly. This reduced the number in London by 8. The total number of deaths where there hasn’t been a positive test, but COVID-19 is documented as a direct or underlying cause of deaths since April 24 is 212.

These figures will now be published on a weekly basis. They show the total number of confirmed hospital deaths that the NHS reported at 5pm on each of the last seven days. Due to the reporting time, the figures may not include all deaths for that day and the deaths may have occurred prior to this 24-hour period. From Tuesday 28 April, they include patient deaths where there hasn’t been a positive test result, but COVID-19 is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death, dated back to Friday 24 April. These figures do not include deaths related to COVID-19 outside of hospitals in the community.
