The Wider South East (WSE) is home to 24.2 million people, 10 million households and 13.7 million jobs. It is projected to grow more rapidly by 2041 than other parts of the UK - in population terms, by 21 per cent in London and 17 per cent in the WSE.
How effective have arrangements been in dealing with the challenges of planning and co-ordinating growth in London and the WSE?
The London Assembly Planning Committee will tomorrow discuss the London Plan in relation to the WSE, as well as the Thames and London’s waterways.
Concerns have been raised that the Draft Plan reduces the prominence of the Thames and London’s strategic waterways in policy terms.
How will the Mayor promote and encourage the use of the River Thames safely, in particular for transportation of freight and passengers?
The guests are:
London and the WSE
- Darren Richards, Strategic Planning Manager, Greater London Authority
- Martin Simmons, Independent Planning Consultant
- Corinne Swain OBE, ARUP
Thames and strategic waterways
- Del Brenner, Secretary, Regents Network
- Michael Coupe, Independent Architecture and Planning Professional
- Jorn Peters, Senior Strategic Planner, Greater London Authority
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 14 March from 2:00pm in Committee Room 5 (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or YouTube.
