On his first full day as Prime Minister, the London Assembly has written to Boris Johnson, to remind him of the commitments he made when he was Mayor of London.
Jennette Arnold OBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly said:
“We held the new Prime Minister to account robustly for eight years when he was Mayor of London.
“During that time, he made some very definitive statements about Heathrow expansion. Statements he must not be allowed to forget. To change his stance on Heathrow expansion now would have serious consequences for the health and wellbeing of Londoners.
“We have also brought his attention to our campaign for a Domestic Abusers Register. The Assembly has urged him to ensure the Parliamentary passage of the Domestic Abuse Bill, incorporating a register, is a priority.
“The London Assembly has a long association with Boris Johnson, and we are highly familiar with the way he operates. We kept a close eye on him as Mayor of London and we will continue to watch him closely as Prime Minister. The needs of London and Londoners should be close to his heart.”
