Sport Unites programme
Sport Unites is the Mayor's flagship community sports programme. It supports his long-term vision to make London the most active and socially-integrated city in the world set out in Sport for All of Us - the Mayor's strategy for sport and physical activity in London.
Programme aims
In our work to support Londoners, we are focused on supporting initiatives that use sport and physical activity to tackle five key priority areas in London:
- helping the most inactive people be more active
- improving people’s mental health and wellbeing
- decreasing isolation and loneliness
- strengthening connections in your local area and across communities
- reducing serious youth violence.
This is achieved by investing in sport and physical activity projects that enable local, free or affordable interventions for improved health and wellbeing through our Sport Unites Fund, or targeting our investment in collaboration with other sport and non-sport organisations to scale-up initiatives that tackle one or the two of the five priority areas.
This area of work supports the community sport sector in responding to, transitioning out of, and recovering from the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this work, we invest in people and programmes that support the long-term sustainability of the community sport sector. This includes our organisational development programme which provides a training offer to community sport organisations to support the health and growth of their organisations, as well as their workforce and volunteers.
