Mission Summary
Every Londoner is to have access to good connectivity, basic digital skills and the device or support they need to be online by 2025.
Why "Digital Access for All"?
Many Londoners do not have the devices, skills or connectivity to get online. The need for better digital access was amplified by the lockdowns experienced during the pandemic, when work, learning, public services and nearly all opportunities for social connection required internet access. Bridging the digital divide is a complex challenge involving better connectivity, improving basic digital skills and access to devices and data packages.
Achievements
- Boroughs with wayleaves 23 (target 29)
- Percentage (%) of local authority owned social housing that is covered by an agreement between the freeholder and a full fibre operator: 85% (target 100%)
- Published London Plan guidance to ensure that all new build premises are built with full fibre as standard
- Research, design, and test a 'Digital Inclusion Service’ to connect digitally excluded Londoners’ to an essential device, data or digital skills.
The initial scoping research for the digital inclusion service was delivered a year early, allowing the project to pivot to take advantage of an opportunity with Good Things Foundation and use the rest of the research funding into delivering year one of the service.
