How did changes affect the delivery of the 2024 London Elections?

City Hall and surrounding buildings
Created on
02 October 2024

What was the impact of changes brought in before the May 2024 GLA Elections on Boroughs and those who worked on the election campaigns?

In the second meeting of its investigation into the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections, the Elections Review Working Group will tomorrow ask representatives from London Boroughs, and agents and political organisers about their experiences.

Assembly Members will ask guests about the impact of changes made for the 2024 elections, such as the manual counting of votes, the impact of requirements for voters to bring photo ID to polling stations, and the move to a first past the post voting system for the Mayoral election. Borough representatives will be asked how changes affected the logistics of the election and what actions the Greater London Authority could take to improve the delivery of the 2028 elections.

The Working Group has launched a survey for Londoners to share their experiences of the GLA elections, which is open to anyone who would like to respond.

The guests are:

Panel 1 – Boroughs (10am – 11.30am)

  • Zoe Wilkins, Chair of AEA London branch and Electoral Services Manager, Hammersmith & Fulham
  • John Bailey, Vice Chair of AEA London branch and Head of Electoral Services, Barnet
