Digital at the GLA
Digital and data services play a critical role in enabling the delivery of the functions of the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. At the Greater London Authority this work is supported by a newly formed Digital Transformation unit and the City Intelligence unit (both within our Strategy & Communications directorate). Together, they design, deliver and manage dozens of digital, data and technology services that support the delivery of the functions of the Mayor and the Assembly; and, in doing so, directly serve Londoners.
The GLA’s largest and most visible digital products – London.gov.uk, the London Datastore and Talk London – are used by millions of Londoners every year and provide the GLA with platforms for communications, convening, public engagement, data and information-sharing, and transparency. These products sit alongside a range of smaller services that:
- automate common and critical functions carried out by GLA officers to support the delivery of programmes, including grant-making, sharing of sensitive/private data using the London Datastore, and training programmes;
- support all GLA elected Members and officers to carry out their work by automating and streamlining common tasks, and enabling digital ways of working
- put data and analysis in the hands of delivery partners working to improve outcomes for Londoners, through products like: SafeStats, the Planning London Datahub, the Green Infrastructure Map, the Infrastructure Mapping Application, the High Streets Data Service, the London Resilience Dashboard and the Cultural Infrastructure Map;
- ensure we meet statutory requirements in an accessible and effective manner, including consultation on and publication of the London Plan, planning referrals, and online support of the State of London debate;
- enable democratic engagement and transparency, including the webcasting of Assembly meetings; the publication of Mayoral decisions, and Gifts and Hospitality information; the handling of Freedom of Information requests; and publicising the work of London Elects;
We're hiring
The newly formed GLA Digital Transformation Unit is hiring a number of roles to support the ongoing transformation of the GLA. This is an exciting time to work in digital at the GLA – as we bring together our external and internal expertise into a single unit, which will be led by a new Director of Digital.
Organisational design and transformation will be at the heart of the Digital Transformation Unit’s work – helping to put in place the building blocks of a modern digital organisation: a common core infrastructure of shared digital systems, technology and processes on which it’s easy to build brilliant, user-centric services and products for citizens, partners and GLA staff.
The organisational re-design work will initially include the transformation of:
- Establishment control.
- Correspondence and contact management.
- Mayor’s Questions.
