It’s just under a week to go until the London Curriculum Children’s Festival. We’re really excited as we prepare to welcome over 500 primary schoolchildren to The Scoop and Potters Fields Park. It’s not just about young people though. There’ll be teachers and others who’ve helped us there on the day too.
If you’ve not heard of the London Curriculum, it’s a new way of bringing the national curriculum to life, using the city for inspiration. Until now, our resources have focused on key stage 3 in secondary schools. At the festival, we’re launching a new key stage 2 resource for primary schools. The first resource has a theme of ‘Going Underground’ and encourages children to take a peek beneath London’s busy streets. It includes activities to support lessons in English, Science, Art & Design and History.
It’s not all work, though. The London Curriculum Children’s Festival will be a day full of fun activities for children, like creating a Roman headdress and play acting in the Great Fire of London. Children can even scratch a few words in their own waxed writing tablet to take home.
Underpinning the event, is the Mayor’s message, that #LondonIsOpen to all, just as it always has been. It means every young Londoner should have the chance to benefit from living in such a great capital city. The new London Curriculum for primary schools does just that. It gives more young people access to inspiring educational activities. This will help encourage them to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Sadiq himself will be there to launch this new resource to primary schools. It features the fabulous Fen the Fox – see if you can spot him at the festival!
We have someone we’d like you to meet…
This is Fen the Fox from Fenchurch Street.
He likes to creep about the city,
To inspect and explore the buildings so pretty.
Join him on his journeys to discover
The secret world of London uncovered.
Look out for him along your way,
He might have something interesting to say!
The new London Curriculum for Primary Schools and the Children’s Festival is funded by the BE OPEN Foundation.
The London Curriculum Children’s Festival would not have been possible without the support from A New Direction and Totally Thames. With special thanks to: ECN, Hilton London Tower Bridge, Norton Rose Fulbright LLP and the Unicorn Theatre.
