The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was treated to a preview of the Big Dance Pledge - a 3 minute dance created by internationally acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan with music by Nitin Sawhney. The Big Dance Pledge was performed by over 40,000 people in 43 countries around the world.
Sadiq said:
I’ve been clear that supporting London’s creative industries is one of my core priorities, and dance plays a huge role in the city’s cultural offer. So I am delighted to have had a front row opportunity to see Akram Khan’s innovative choreography in action, which is set to be performed by tens of thousands of people around the globe as part of Big Dance 2016.
The Big Dance Pledge marks the beginning of the Big Dance 2016 Festival which includes a series of dance opportunities across London for all Londoners to get involved in until September. To see what's on, you can read the Big Dance 2016 Events Brochure.
The Mayor is also inviting 1000 Londoners to participate in Big Dance Trafalgar Square on Saturday 2 July - an extended version of the Big Dance Pledge which Akram has created as London’s signature Big Dance work.
