Public access to City Hall

During its opening hours City Hall welcomes members of the public into the public areas of the building.

To ensure the safety of both visitor and staff, access to City Hall is subject to our Admissions Policy which includes visitors agreeing to go through our airport style search and screening facility.

Right of admission will be declined to anyone who does not wish to go through the search and screening procedures or who is found to be in possession of a prohibited item, which are detailed in the Admissions Policy. Prohibited items are generally those which could cause harm to others or be used to disrupt the business of the Authority.

Admissions policy

As part of City Hall’s health and safety arrangements, admission for all visitors is conditional upon agreeing to go through the search procedures and complying with all security arrangements and instructions. The Greater London Authority (GLA) reserves the right to refuse admission.

Go to the Admissions Policy or download the document below.

Parking

Cycle parking

Public cycle parking facilities are available on the north side of the building. You are advised to lock your cycle to the stands with a good quality lock.  In the interests of security please leave cycle panniers, bags or baskets empty to allow inspection by security staff. Failure to do so may result in items being removed and destroyed without notice.

Cycles are left in the cycle parking at the owner’s risk and the GLA can take no responsibility for any cycles or other items that are left at the facility.

Visitors are requested not to leave cycles at the facility overnight. Cycles left overnight will be deemed to have been abandoned and may be removed and disposed of.

Car parking

There is no public car parking available at City Hall.

Limited disabled parking is only available for staff and official visitors to City Hall. Please contact your GLA host to make access arrangements.

Rallies outside City Hall

You may from time to time see and hear people exercising their democratic right to peacefully protest at a rally outside City Hall. Those protesting may offer you leaflets or ask your opinion on a particular matter.

We may indicate to protesters a safe place to position themselves so that they do not interfere with the safety and rights and freedoms of others to go about their business.

We strongly encourage anyone who is considering holding a protest outside City Hall to contact us in advance so we can advise on the site rules and let organisers know of anything that may impact their proposed activity.  Protests are not permitted inside City Hall.

An application form to hold a rally outside City Hall can be found alongside further information on our holding a rally or protest at City Hall application page.
