Ensuring all Londoners are equipped with the voice and tools to shape the recovery in their communities.
Recovery in context
As a city we are facing the most challenging period in recent history. The economic, social and health impact of coronavirus cannot be overstated. We need to: Restore confidence in the city, minimise the impact on London’s most vulnerable communities and rebuild the city’s economy and society.
We have set out a missions based approach, inspired by UCL’s Professor Mariana Mazzucato, to meet this challenge. This is a way of working that will bring together the public, private and voluntary sectors, and will require massive effort on the part of all Londoners to make a success. We have never embarked on such an ambitious programme before.
We have set out below the background and evidence for London’s Recovery, as broken down into 9 mission areas that have now been agreed.
It is important to note, that as guiding principles, addressing social, economic and health inequalities, delivering a cleaner, greener London, and ensuring Londoners are at the heart of recovery were identified as cutting across all of the work on London's Recovery.
The work of the Recovery programme and the missions should be understood with these principles running through them. You can read more about the programme and the missions in the overview paper.
