Q&A with Met Police Commissioner 100 days post-Casey

Sir Mark Rowley QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police
Created on
04 July 2023

Baroness Casey’s damning review of culture and standards in the Metropolitan Police Service accused it of being institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic [1].

The report warned that the service had failed to protect the public from officers who abuse women, organisational changes have put women and children at greater risk, and female officers and staff routinely experience sexism.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has said that he recognises the need for change in the Met to happen quickly and has made a commitment to work with communities to make improvements.

Just over 100 days since the review was published, what progress has the Met made? What changes has the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) made to strengthen its oversight of the service?

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss this and other topical issues with the Commissioner, including the new suspect named in the Stephen Lawrence murder inquiry.

The guests are:

  • Sir Mark Rowley QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police
  • Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 5 July 2023 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
