Unlocking housing development in London

Planning and Regeneration Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am
 
London needs to build between 52,000 and 100,000 new homes annually, but targets are being missed. In 2022-23, a net total of only 35,300 homes were delivered.

The Planning and Regeneration Committee will question a broad range of experts from across the housing and planning sector, including developers, to learn what barriers there are to housing development in London and how they can be overcome.

The Mayor’s 2024 Manifesto commitments and delivery of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy

Transport Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am
 
The Mayor’s Transport Strategy, published in 2018, sets out how the Mayor plans to reshape transport in London over the next 20-25 years.
 
Following the Mayor’s re-election, the Transport Committee will examine how his 2024 Manifesto commitments can help ensure the Strategy is delivered and identify any barriers that might stop the Mayor from meeting his goals.

Summer readiness

Fire Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am
 
On 19 July 2022, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) faced its “busiest day since World War Two” as fires broke out across London – resulting in the service responding to over 350 incidents.
 
With extreme weather events becoming increasingly more common and driving up the risk posed by wildfires, the Fire Committee will hear from international and local experts, and the LFB, to find out whether the lessons of two years ago have been learned.

New Resilience structure, and HR and IT Services Review

GLA Oversight Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 2pm

The GLA Oversight Committee will speak to guests about the merging of the London Resilience Group and City Operations in the first half of 2024, to see what the impact of moving all resilience functions into one team has been.

Committee Members will also examine whether the GLA’s Shared Services IT and HR functions arrangement is performing as it should.
