Assembly responds to London Climate Resilience Review report

In response to the publication of the London Climate Resilience Review report, Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee, Zack Polanski AM, said:

“Ensuring London and Londoners are prepared for extreme climates amidst climate change, must be a priority for the Mayor and Government.

“We are seeing extreme weather conditions more frequently, including flash floods and 40-degree temperatures causing havoc for the capital, its infrastructure and its residents.

Some of the recommendations included in the report align with those from our own Environment Committee work and we welcome this.

“Last year, we looked at London’s waters and rivers, with an investigation into flooding in London also being carried out by the Committee in 2022-23.

“Our investigations highlighted the need to ensure scale up funding and delivery of sustainable drainage to reduce the risk of surface water flooding.

“The importance of strategic co-ordination of all stakeholders across London, including to accelerate the delivery of sustainable drainage systems by all partners, was something that came up through our work.

“Climate change is a risk for us all, and action must be taken to ensure we keep our city and its residents safe and well.

“We hope to see the Mayor, Government and all stakeholders included within the London Climate Resilience Review report take the necessary action and implement the recommendations from the report, as well as those recommendations from the London Assembly Environment Committee’s own reports.”
