Assembly to assess Mayor’s Policing nominee

The London Assembly is expected to hold a confirmation hearing on Wednesday, to assess the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s proposed reappointment to the office of Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.

The Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee will meet Wednesday 22 May at 10am to determine whether it wishes to hold a confirmation hearing for the proposed candidate for the role.

If the Committee is minded to use its powers to hold a Confirmation Hearing, it will hold an extraordinary meeting of the Committee on Wednesday 22 May at 11.30am to question:

Sophie Linden - Proposed appointment to the office of Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.

Questions may cover four key areas:

  • Whether the candidate is qualified for the position
  • Whether the candidate has the time and capacity for the position
  • Whether the candidate is fit (independent and impartial) for the position
  • The main responsibilities of the post and the key issues facing the organisation

Following the hearing, the Committee will make a recommendationto the Mayor as to whether they agree or reject the proposed appointment.[1]

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 22 May from 10am in the Chamber, at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend – numbers may be limited.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
