Biography
James Cleverly comes from a background in web and print publishing. He has a business degree from the University of West London and before being elected was the co-founder of a company that runs websites helping entrepreneurs and small businesses grow and develop.
James was elected in 2008 as the London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, and during his first years at City Hall he served as the Mayor's Youth Ambassador. He then served as Chairman of the London Waste and Recycling Board from 2010 to 2012. In 2012 the Mayor appointed him Chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority and Chairman of the London Local Resilience Forum, appointments he held until March 2015.
For over 20 years James has been an officer in the Territorial Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and until 2005 he was the Officer Commanding 266 (Para) Battery Royal Artillery (Volunteers).
James is the Member of Parliament for Braintree.
