The Mayor's Vision for Cycling will create a 'Crossrail for the bike' by investing almost £1 billion in cycling in London.
The route will run for more than 15 miles and will be heavily separated from car traffic. It will begin in the western suburbs, travel through the heart of London, then on to Canary Wharf and Barking.
We will build new separate cycle tracks along the Victoria Embankment, the Westway flyover and elsewhere in the capital. It is believed to be the longest mostly separated cycle route of any European city.

The Mayor’s Vision for Cycling also includes:
- A new 'Central London Grid' of bike routes in the City and West End. We will use segregation, quiet streets, and two-way cycling on one-way traffic streets to join all the other routes together
- A new network of 'Quietways' aimed at people put off by cycling in traffic. We will create direct, continuous, fully signposted routes on peaceful side streets that will run far into the suburbs
- Substantial improvements to both existing and proposed Superhighways, including some re-routings
- Major improvements to the worst junctions, making them safer and less threatening for cyclists
- Work to make HGVs safer
