Major sports events
London will play host to a huge number and wide variety of high profile sporting events in the coming months and years. These events will bring some of the greatest athletes on the planet to the capital. In so doing, they’ll help maintain London’s position as the home of world-class sport.
Why London?
London is a uniquely diverse city, with over 300 languages spoken on the streets of the capital. Almost every nation on earth has a resident fan base here in the city.
Londoners are fanatical about sport. The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games showcased our passion and enthusiasm for world-class sports competitions. More recently, London hosted matches as part of the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, including England’s first major tournament final in 55 years. This summer, Brentford Community Stadium and Wembley Stadium will host Women’s European Championship matches, and we hope the Lionesses to go even further. Find out more about the event.
We boast a wealth of state-of-the-art sports venues: from London Stadium to Hyde Park; the Lee Valley Velodrome to Wembley Stadium; the London Aquatics Centre to the River Thames. No other city in the world can boast such a rich pool of elite sports facilities. The city is also one of the best connected in the world, with five airports serving 180 destinations.
London has staged a number of iconic, international sporting events and is set to welcome even more in the years to come.
