The Mayor of London, with support from the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP), has pledged more than £600k to 23 local projects through the sixth round of Crowdfund London.

Projects include a temporary events space, designed and built by young people in Lambeth, creating public access to 26 miles of riverside in Newham and replacing an existing greenhouse with a new growing space, which will be used by the local community in Hammersmith & Fulham.

The Mayor is now urging Londoners to get behind these local ideas and help them become a reality.

Which of the 23 local projects will you support?

1. ACTON UNFRAMED

Acton Untamed

Ealing (£15,000)

Acton Unframed’ is a street art project that aims to bring international street artists to Acton W3. It will deliver five murals which will involve the local community. The project aims to attract visitors to the area and serve as a catalyst to engage the community and to inspire commercial and social change in the neighbourhood.

2. An Outdoor Classroom for GROW

An outdoor garden for GROW

Barnet (£50,000)

GROW is a life skills education programme which aims to reconnect children to nature and food growing. It would provide a sustainable source of food for the nearby Totteridge Academy and the local community, as well as workshops around health and wellbeing, volunteering opportunity and affordable community space.

3. Atlantic Pacific @ Royal Docks London

Atlantic Pacific Royal Docks

Newham (£32,500)

Atlantic Pacific @ Royal Docks London will be a space for young people from the local community to come and learn practical boating, casualty care and search and rescue skills.

4. Build A Man Shed for vulnerable men

RB Kingston upon Thames (£2,000)

The project will reach out to men in the community who are experiencing mental health issues or who at risk of developing mental health issues due to social isolation and loneliness.

5. Camberwell Banners

Camberwell Banners

Southwark (£6,500)

Camberwell Banners will install 15 raised lamppost banners along Denmark Hill to lead visitors down the high street to discover the cafes, shops, green spaces and galleries of Camberwell. Funders will receive a free guide to Camberwell.

6. Cody Dock Rolling Bridge

Newham (£40,000)

The project will create an innovative new rolling bridge at Cody Dock, connecting the new Lea River Park with 26 miles of riverside wetland walks. The project is part of wider masterplan of Cody Docks, which has included the engagement of 7,000 local residents.

7. Community Herb Garden

Enfield (£6,000)

Eat healthy, Stay healthy, Live long. The project will create a community herb garden and a friendly open space for the benefit of the local community. The aim of this project is to help address the compound challenge of poor healthy lifestyle in Edmonton Green, one of the UK’s most deprived area.

8. Deptford Dockyard & Lenox Visitor Centre

Lewisham (£50,000)

The project will rejuvenate the dramatic vaulted undercroft of a historic building in Deptford. It will restore and fit out the undercroft, preserving and enhancing the historic structure, and provide new facilities including a public event and display area. As well as a workshop for building the ship’s model and small wooden boats where apprentices can train in related skills. The display area will house artefacts specific to Deptford's maritime history.

9. Grass Routes Minibus

Newham (£40,000)

An electric minibus for community use which will provide a pickup service to 5 local schools for ‘After School’ clubs, pick up and distribute foodbank and community cafe donations, transport furniture for upcycling and make the minibus available for other community use where needed and as suggested by community members.

10. Greening Daubeney Primary School

Hackney (£1,000)

The project seeks to create an outdoor classroom in an underused part of a playground in a school in a deprived area of Hackney, called Daubeney Primary School. The intention is to create a natural space for sanctuary, creativity and exploration, to be used for whole-class teaching and as a sanctuary space for smaller groups. It will provide children and the local community valuable easy access to a natural outdoor resource.

11. Hub for the Homeless at The Upper Room

Hub for the homeless

Hammersmith & Fulham (£1,000)

To refurbish the kitchen at The Upper Room to dramatically improve the quality of services on offer as well increase their existing capacity. This, along with the development of a new computer training room, will make it an important homeless services hub for West London.

12. Let’s Build!

Let's build

Lambeth (£12,000)

Young people in Lambeth will work with professional architects to co-design and self-build their own temporary structure to plan and create events for other young people across the borough.

13. Maximise The Canvas community space!

Canvas cafe

Tower Hamlets (£12,000)

A not-for-profit vegan cafe and community hub which will deliver improvements to their existing community space at Hanbury Street in order to host community-led events and more.

14. Memoirs Through Murals

Mural

Havering (£30,000)

The project will commission a series of murals based on the memories of local residents of Romford. The murals will be placed alongside Collier Row high street. Things Made Public will be working with 5 schools and 300 school children to create the stories that will inspire the art commissions.

15. Mind, Body & Soul Food

Newham (£40,000)

The project aims to build a new kitchen for a social enterprise community café within the REIN community centre. It includes the creation of a zen garden and will aim to promote education, mindfulness, positive mental health and social well-being with social enterprise education classes.

16. Ravenscourt Park Community Glasshouses

Hammersmith & Fulham (£50,000)

To replace a 1960's glasshouse that is structurally unsound. The new facility will be a community hub for gardening & related health & well being activities year round. A green community centre.

17. Revive Wild Swimming in Broomfield Park

Enfield (£40,000)

The aim of the Broomfield Pond Swim Society is to work hand-in-hand with the residents of Palmers Green and Enfield Council to restore Broomfield Park's ponds to swimmable quality.

18. Sowing a Community

Ealing (£20,000)

Creating a unique communal garden at St Marks Primary school by redeveloping a redundant space to establish a supportive educational space for our community whilst protecting it from harmful pollution.

19. Step Up To Work - thinkFOUNDATION

Step up to work

Waltham Forest (£25,000)

The project seeks to establish a skills and educational programme for young marginalised individuals (16-24 year olds) who have fallen out of the standard educational and work path in the local area, and support them to acquire the necessary skills and experience for them to enter into work. This will be achieved through the foundation’s ‘Step Up To Work’ programme which will engage and train individuals in a hands on working environment within the thinkFOUND furniture making company.

20. Stitch Academy

Hackney (£35,000)

A workspace refurbishment and provision at Rosina Street, Homerton. It will provide affordable workspace on the first floor for start-up businesses and creative makers and a range of subsidised mixed-use resources on the ground floor for the creative community, local residents and user groups.

21. The Cornerstone - A Community Landmark

The Cornerstone

Southwark (£50,000)

To construct and install a monumental landmark stone sculpture in Bermondsey using 100+ stone carvings by public participants of open community engagement workshops achieving a living art heritage.

22. The Old Bath Community House

Old Community Bath House

Hackney (£35,000)

Develop a dynamic multicultural community centre, with a community kitchen at the centre of its services. It will be open to local people for training in East Asian cuisine, social entrepreneurs to demonstrate their culinary skills, as pop up restaurants showcasing different cultures and food tradition, or be hired to school or local catering events.

23. Transform the Walled Garden, Croydon

Croydon (£17,500)

The project by Friends of Park Hill Park and Recreation Ground aims to redesign an existing Victorian walled garden in Park Hill Park in Croydon town centre, including fully accessible pathways to the garden ‘rooms’, new planting and hard landscaping and performance space / community space.
