The Call for Sites platform is a user-friendly, web-based GIS tool designed for users to propose new housing development sites in London and provide information about the sites in a few clicks.

A Call for Sites is a crucial process for local planning authorities in London to identify available land for future housing development. Landowners, developers, industry players such as planning consultants, and members of the public are invited to submit sites they believe are suitable for new housing projects. The submitted sites are then reviewed and assessed for their suitability and viability for development through the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) conducted with local planning authorities.

The data collected is vital for informing the London Plan and forming the evidence base for local plans, ensuring a more effective and streamlined approach to planning future housing and development in London.

The Call for Sites period has been extended until the end of November 2024. Don’t miss out - submit your sites today!

Key features:

  • User-friendly interface: Easily draw your proposed site using the pen tool

  • Quick process: Register a site in a few clicks

  • Collaborative effort: Contribute to identifying potential future developments in London

The first Call for Sites will be open for 10 weeks, ending at the end of November 2024. It will be reopened regularly to maintain an up-to-date dataset.

For sites submitted after the Call for Sites period ends, it will be at the borough’s discretion to decide whether to accept them. The Call for Sites platform itself will remain open.

The data collected through the Call for Sites platform is integrated into our LAND4LDN platform. This data is then accessed and reviewed by London boroughs as part of the SHLAA process, helping to develop local plans and allocate sites for housing development. View the LAND4LDN webpage for more information about the platform.

The Call for Sites platform aims to enhance efficiency by streamlining the traditional process of how development data was collected, transferred and analysed. This intuitive tool allows for the instant capture and sharing of development data for potential sites with London boroughs. The data is readily available on the LAND4LDN platform for further assessment and consideration. This streamlined approach enables local authorities to make more effective, data-informed decisions, ensuring they can effectively plan to meet London’s housing needs.

Only sites that are 0.25 of a hectare or larger will be considered through the site assessment process. Sites smaller than this will be considered separately.

You can still submit a site if you don’t own it, as long as you have essential information about the site that local authorities can consider.

We are seeking submission of sites that involve new residential or mixed-use development. If your mixed-use site has a residential element, please submit it.

The sites will not be made public at this time. As sites are progressed through the Local Plan allocation process, they will be publicised at that stage.

Yes, you can input sites on behalf of others if you have their consent. Similarly, others can input sites for you if they have your consent.

Your personal data (i.e. the contact details you supplied) will be held and stored in accordance with our privacy policy and will not be shared with anyone without your consent. We will only contact you if you have indicated that you’d like to be contacted about your submission.

Data about your site will be shared exclusively with relevant London boroughs to assess its suitability for development and to gain an oversight of development opportunities in London, which will then inform decisions on capacity and infrastructure planning.

Should you wish to remove your personal data that you shared with us or have any queries about data collection, please email us at [email protected]
