Get growing
Why is it good to get growing?
Growing our own food can help us to eat healthily and get some exercise, as well as greening the city. Learning where our food comes from can help us build new skills and connect to nature.
Food brings people together and London has one of the world’s biggest urban food growing networks – the city’s 2,700 community gardens and growing spaces are great places to make new friends.
It’s easy to start small at home, even if you just have a windowsill.
What you can do
There are lots of ways that you can get involved. You can:
- find out what to grow when with the Royal Horticultural Society.
- grow your own food in even the tiniest space on your balcony or windowsill
- follow the National Trust’s advice to plant it, grow it, eat it!
- make friends by volunteering at a local growing project. Find one near you on Capital Growth’s map or explore their training courses
Share your actions
Let us know what you’ve been growing. Share your photos on social media with the hashtag #NationalParkCity
