Retrofit Accelerator - Social Housing
The Mayor of London, backed by the former Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), led the way in reducing household carbon emissions and transforming existing social housing into more comfortable, energy efficient homes.
The Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator aimed to help social housing providers successfully bid into BEIS’ £160m Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. The new initiative built upon the Mayor’s former Retrofit Accelerator – Homes programme.
The Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator offered a varied package of support which was developed with and specifically for the social housing sector.
This accelerator was part of the necessary push to increase the quality and speed of retrofitting to help cut carbon emissions and reduce heating costs for thousands of social homes, including those living in or at risk of fuel poverty.
Who did we support?
The support provided was aimed at the social housing sector generally, with a specific focus on organisations that could bid into the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.
How did we help?
We wanted to support social housing providers overcome the barriers to developing retrofit projects and increase their chances of successfully bidding for funding through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.
Examples of the type of support offered:
- Data collection and stock analysis
- Business case development
- Developing delivery models
- Scoping and specification of the project
- Internal governance
- Bid writing
- Resident engagement
- Planning approval
- Resident handover
- Monitoring and verification
- Maintenance and aftercare
What support was available?
This support came in the form of:
- A comprehensive knowledge hub providing support and information to guide a housing provider through a retrofit project life cycle. The information drew together industry best practice and guidance.
- Workshops, seminars and drop-in sessions on specific focus areas.
- One-to-one support enabling social housing providers to get detailed development input on their proposals, followed by a support plan that was co-designed and agreed.
