About the programme
The Early Years Leaders Programme was a development programme, run by NDNA between January 2018 and December 2020.
Funded by the Mayor of London, it aimed to improve the quality of early years provision in the capital by supporting existing early years practitioners (including childminders) to further develop their management, leadership and business skills.
The programme was based on a coaching model - participants were each matched with an experienced early years coach, from whom they received one-to-one coaching and support. Participants also had access to networking and group coaching opportunities, as well as an online platform to provide information and resources.

Read the evaluation
In March 2021, we published an independent evaluation of the Early Years Leaders Programme, commissioned by NDNA and produced by independent researcher, Lisa O'Donnell.
The evaluation addresses a number of key research questions in order to assess the programme's success:
- How well did the programme identify eligible early years leaders with the potential and aspiration for development?
- How effective was programme delivery?
- What was the impact of the programme on participants?
- What was the impact of the programme on early years settings?
The evaluation also offers recommendations for any future work in this area.
You can download a research summary below, which presents key findings from the evaluation, or read the full report.
