Len Duvall AM, Chair of the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group, said:
“We issued a Brexit Directive requesting an EU exit plan for London in October, so we are pleased to hear today’s announcement from the Mayor that he will commission an independent economic Brexit analysis. [1]
We need a plan of action that would give the capital and the financial markets reassurance and it should cover issues including the impact of Brexit on future funding, London’s financial services sector and the regulatory framework for environmental standards.
I look forward to seeing the outcome of that analysis.
We also welcome today’s announcement from the Government on the rights of EU citizens living in the UK, and British citizens living in the EU. [2] Obviously, as the details of this deal emerge, we will scrutinise it closely.
In September, we wrote to the Mayor explaining how London’s EU citizens were facing an ‘advice crisis’. We stressed that the one million EU nationals living in London contribute a huge amount to our economy and the culture of the city.
We will continue to draw attention to London issues and make recommendations to feed-in to the Mayor’s discussions with the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.”
