In 2022, the London Recovery Board published vision statements and a report on 'Building a Fairer City', which focussed on structural inequalities.[2] The vision statements set out how in London, the pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated existing inequalities.[3]
Londoners need affordable, well-designed homes, access to health and social infrastructure and access to quality green space. So, how can we ensure communities shape the places and spaces they live in and use and be an integral part of the planning process?
Tomorrow, the Planning and Regeneration Committee will meet with representatives from community and civic groups for the first of two meetings on the future of planning in London. The Committee has worked with the community group Just Space to organise this session, and will be hearing about their recovery plan.[4]
The meeting will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on different communities and how approaches to planning can address inequalities and reflect the needs of diverse Londoners.
