The Mayor’s Budget: what has changed since COVID-19?

The Mayor of London has said that the Greater London Authority (GLA), which is responsible for the Met Police, London Fire Brigade and TfL, is facing a budget shortfall of up to £493 million over the next two years. The Mayor’s overall budget for 2020-21 is £18.5 billion.



This is the second of five meetings which the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee is holding to look at GLA budget issues in light of the financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tomorrow, the Committee will look at:

  1. GLA Staffing
  2. Collaboration and shared services
  3. The Mayor’s budget for 2020-21
  4. Mayor and Assembly savings and budget growth

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 29 September 2020 from 10.00am. This meeting will take place in a hybrid format, with some Members participating virtually and some participating in person, in accordance with Government advice and requirements on social distancing.
