Making Wembley Wonderful, Brent
Why is improvement needed in Wembley?
Wembley is one of Brent’s most financially excluded areas. Household income in this area is significantly lower than nearby neighbourhoods.
The goal of this project is to reinvigorate five unused Wembley High Street retail units for the community to use. It aims to turn disused, neglected shops into attractive spaces to run courses, training, film nights and more. In turn, this will improve community life and the local economy.
What will this project do for Wembley?
The project’s target is to engage 200 residents in new activities. The project will:
- improve the job prospects of local residents by running IT classes and providing employment support, such as CV workshops
- provide ‘magic breakfasts’ do give school children a better start to their day
- help residents improve their health by running healthy cooking courses
- improve residents’ financial management skills with ‘income maximisation workshops’
- improve community relationships by running parent and toddler playgroups, music classes and concerts, film nights
- improve integration by running ESOL (English as a Second Language) classes
