GLA Workforce report – what are the issues?

The number of individuals employed by the Greater London Authority (GLA) increased from 1,303 in March 2023 to 1,396 in March 2024, representing a 7% increase in one year. [1]

Half of the GLA workforce earn between £40,000 and £60,000 and 3% of the workforce earn over £100,000. The Mayor’s Office has by far the highest proportion of staff earning £100,000 and more (33%), followed by the Directorate of the Chief Finance Officer (8%) and the Assembly Secretariat (5%). The figure for the Mayor’s Office includes salaries paid to Deputy Mayors.

The number of BAME staff at the GLA increased from 410 in March 2023 to 441 in March 2024. This represents 37% of the workforce who have declared their ethnic background. Since March 2023, the proportion of BAME staff has increased by 1%.

The proportion of female staff in the GLA rose by 1% over the last year and is now at 63%, the highest proportion recorded. This is also significantly higher than the proportion of women in employment in London, which is 50%. [2]
