In this very hot weather it’s important to stay cool and look out for those who might be struggling with the heat. Older Londoners, young children and people with long-term health conditions are particularly at risk.

Rough sleepers are also vulnerable during hot weather, so at City Hall we’ve been working with boroughs and partners to provide water and offer advice on day services. The No Second Night Out hubs are providing support to those who are particularly vulnerable in the heat.

Here are 5 ways to stay cool and help others during the heat:

  1. To beat the heat, try to keep out the sun from 11am to 3pm, walk in the shade where possible.
  2. Carry water with you when travelling around the city and using public transport, and think what you can do stay cool when going to large events.
  3. Stay cool at night – close your curtains during the day.
  4. Check in on friends, family and neighbours where possible, make sure water is easily accessible to older Londoners and those with health conditions.
  5. If you are concerned about a rough sleeper, contact Streetlink and to offer water if you feel comfortable doing so. For urgent concerns about a rough sleeper's health, contact 999 or 111.
