Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships
The team and its mission
As part of this move away from pandemic recovery, on 3 April the Recovery Programme Team will merge with the Government Relations Team to form the new Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships Team.
This team will have a broader remit to develop and maintain the relationships that the GLA has with partners across government, London Councils, boroughs, metro mayors, the functional bodies, businesses and civil society groups, and major public services across London.
It will help shape the decisions that government and others make about our city, using the learning and experience of responding to the pandemic and other challenges in partnership.
The Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships Team can help support you in maximising the effectiveness of your interactions with key partners and political stakeholders in London and across Europe, as well as supporting your engagement with the London Partnership Board – which brings together London’s leaders to help address the city’s complex challenges.
The team will:
- co-ordinate meetings with ministers and government advisers and oversee key correspondence with senior political stakeholders
- manage and co-ordinate the London Partnership Board
- provide advice on responding to government consultations, as well as leading on the development and implementation of lobbying strategies to deliver on the Mayor’s priorities
- help coordinate and drive the GLAs engagement with the key decisions and legislation that impact the lives of Londoners
- monitor and circulate government decisions and announcements, as well as parliamentary debates, questions, motions and other procedures.
London's European Office
London's European Office in Brussels works on behalf of the Mayor, GLA and TfL to:
- Monitor and influence EU policy areas where these still have an impact on London.
- Represent London in European networks.
- Promote London’s activities and facilitate co-operation with the EU and other cities and stakeholders based in Brussels.
- Inform colleagues of funding opportunities of relevance to London.
Partnerships in Europe
In Brussels the team are involved in several networks with other cities and partners with whom we share common interests, including:
- EUROCITIES, the network of large European cities
- POLIS, the European network of cities and regions focussing on sustainable transport
- UITP, the global association for public transport.
