Incident in Westminster

Westminster tube station has reopened after being closed for a few hours this morning and trains are stopping as normal. Police are in the process of removing the wider cordons, and Parliament Square has re-opened. Police investigations, led by the Counter Terror Command, into this morning's incident, continue and one man remains in custody. I continue to be in close touch with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Transport for London, and the other emergency services. No other suspects have been identified, and there is no intelligence of further danger to Londoners in connection with this incident, which is being treated as terror-related.

A man has been arrested after this morning’s incident in which a car was driven into barriers outside the Houses of Parliament. Two people were injured, though thankfully their injuries are not life threatening, and my thoughts are with them.

Police have confirmed that the incident is being treated as a terrorist act. All Londoners, like me, utterly condemn all acts of terrorism on our city.

The response of Londoners today shows that we will never be cowed, intimidated or divided by any terrorist attack.

I have been and will continue to be in close touch with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Transport for London, and the other emergency services. My heartfelt thanks goes to the brave first responders who were so quickly on the scene following the attack.
