The Mayor is calling on the Government to guarantee that all EU nationals can stay in the UK after Brexit.

You are Londoners, you are welcome here and you deserve a commitment from the Government that you can stay.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan

The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has urged the Government to give a cast-iron guarantee to EU nationals that they are welcome to stay in the UK after Brexit.

Around 1 million EU nationals count London as their home. Sadiq wants the pledge to be given as soon as the Prime Minister triggers Article 50, which will formally start the Brexit process.

Sadiq wants the Home Office to set up a thorough process for all EU nationals legally in the UK to apply for permanent residence. This is a view shared by the Select Committee on Exiting the EU who discussed the impact of Brexit with the Mayor earlier this week.

As part of the Mayor’s #LondonIsOpen campaign, we have released a new film telling the stories and experiences of EU nationals who call London home, and are worried about their future.
