What does good consultation look like?

Royal India Docks Skyline
Created on
22 November 2023

Although the Government has published consultation principles, there are no legal obligations for authorities to take into consideration consultation responses when implementing a policy. The Greater London Authority will have a statutory requirement to consult residents in some cases.

The London Assembly Oversight Committee is carrying out a two-part investigation to examine consultations across the GLA Group and establish what good consultation looks like. This investigation will be an opportunity to draw out wider lessons from past consultations and consider if more rigorous processes are needed.

Tomorrow the London Assembly GLA Oversight Committee will meet tomorrow to explore best practice for consultations and public engagement through discussion with external experts.

Guests at the meeting will be

  • Chris Harrison, Regional Director for the South, Project Centre
  • Stephanie Bortoli, Head of Communications and Engagement, Project Centre
  • Alex Smith, Head of Campaigns Communications, London TravelWatch
  • Mike Bartram, Fellow, The Consultation Institute
  • Clare Delmar, Founder, Listen to Locals

The meeting will take place on Thursday 23 November 2023 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
