What are the biggest challenges facing the London Fire Brigade?

London Fire Brigade fire rescue exercise
Created on
07 February 2024
  • The London Fire Commissioner said the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has completed nine actions from Nazir Afzal OBE’s Independent Culture Review [1].
  • Following the Independent Culture Review’s publication, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire Rescue Services (HMICFRS) announced that LFB had been placed under ‘Engage’, an enhanced level of monitoring [2].
  • Hearings for Phase 2 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry have been completed with closing statements heard in November 2022, and the report likely to be published in 2024 [3].
  • LFB reports that e-bike and e-scooter batteries are London's fastest growing fire trend and on average there was a fire every two days last year [4]. Three people have died and more than 50 people have been injured.

Tomorrow, at an all-Assembly meeting, London Assembly Members will ask for an update on the biggest issues facing LFB this year. The guests are:

  • Andy Roe, London Fire Commissioner
  • Baroness Twycross, Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience

Following the Q&A session a number of motions will be debated.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 8 February 2024 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
