Q&A with Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy

London Stadium
Created on
05 March 2024

The London Assembly Environment Committee is responsible for scrutinising the environmental work of the Mayor and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

The Mayor’s Environment Strategy was published in May 2018. This is the first time that one GLA document has covered everything in one place, making it “the first strategy to bring together approaches to every aspect of London’s environment’. The Strategy sets out numerous environmental targets, including

  • London to have the best air quality of any major world city by 2050;
  • London to be the world’s first National Park City, where more than half of its area is green.

Throughout the Assembly year, the Environment Committee has carried out a number of investigations into the work of the Mayor and Greater London Authority (GLA), as the Committee assesses the Mayor’s progress in implementing the London Environment Strategy.

Tomorrow, the Committee will question the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, as well as senior GLA officers, on a range of topics including renewable energy, air quality and London’s biodiversity.

Guests at the meeting include:

  • Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy
  • Catherine Barber, Assistant Director, Environment and Energy Unit, GLA
  • Elliot Treharne, Assistant Director, Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, GLA

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 6 March from 2pm, in The Chamber, at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
