The London Pensions Fund Authority: Performance under Chair John Preston

City Hall exterior
Created on
16 January 2024

John Preston was appointed Chair of the London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA) in 2019 for a three-year term starting on 1 January 2020, and has recently been re-appointed for a four-year term.

The role of Chair of the LPFA is specified in Schedule 60A(3) of the 1999 GLA Act as an office where the London Assembly has the power to hold a Confirmation Hearing and to make a recommendation to the Mayor on whether he should proceed with the appointment. On this occasion, the London Assembly decided that a Confirmation Hearing would not be necessary.

The London Assembly GLA Oversight Committee will meet tomorrow to understand how the LPFA has performed under John Preston and to follow up on the GLA Oversight Committee’s 2022 review into GLA Group pensions, with a specific focus on the LPFA.

They will explore what progress the LPFA has made over the last three years and examine what the LPFA Chair’s priorities are for his second term.  The LFPA response to the recommendations set out in the GLA Oversight’s Pensions Review report April 2023 will also be discussed.

The guest at the meeting will be:

John Preston, Chair, London Pensions Fund Authority

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 January 2024 from 10am, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
