The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) 2024-25 Budget identifies a funding shortfall of £41 million [1].

What impact will this have on policing in the capital, and what will the reprioritisation of services look like?

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is projected to use £22.5 million of reserves in 2024-25, with an additional drawdown of £12.8 million forecasted in 2025-26 [2].

This will result in a reduction of LFB reserves from £108.6 million in March 2023 to £39.5 million in March 2026.

What impact will this use of reserves have on LFB budgets now and in the future, and is the draft budget too reliant on reserves?

As part of its annual scrutiny of the Mayor’s budget, the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee will meet on Monday to discuss the draft 2024-25 budgets for LFB, MOPAC and MPS.

LFB – from 10am

  • Fiona Twycross, Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience
  • Andy Roe, Commissioner, LFB
  • Mostaque Ahmed, Director of Corporate Services, LFB

  • Lib Peck, Director of the Violence Reduction Unit
  • Diana Luchford, Chief Executive, MOPAC
